It had been a tumultuous journey as I sought to find a college I could call my "home away from home." The prospect of making newfriends, participating in clubs and activities, and being a part of Greek life was all I thought I would gain from a college experience. As a senior in high school I anticipated that after choosing to attend the University of North Carolina I would spend the next four years of my life there. Yet, life does not always turn out as we predict. Family illnesses brought me closer to home first to Villanova University and then Drew University. Living at home, attending college, and working distanced me from campus life. As life settled down, I longed for the opportunities that come with college life- like new friends and experiences. My search to find these things led me to Marist. Not knowing what to expect, I came to visit the campus and was overwhelmed by how welcoming everyone was, the beautiful campus, and breathtaking view of the Hudson. It was at this moment I knew I had found my new home.
So, off I went to meet my advisor who only heightened my excitement as he shared with me the many opportunities I would find at Marist. From traveling abroad, to academic programs where I can major in Spanish along with a minor in global studies and paralegal certification. In my heart I knew immediately that I had found the perfect place for me and that my transfer journey had finally come to an end. Now, it is only a few months later and I am currently involved in Relay for Life, Fashion Club, Emerging Leaders, Greek Life, and Italian Club.
If you are looking for me on campus, you may find me soaking up the sunshine with friends as we sit on the dock in front of the boathouse, studying in the beautiful James A. Cannavino library, or just sitting by the green sipping a cup of coffee. What the Marist community has provided for me is what I have been searching for throughout my transfer journey, the ultimate college experience.
