Keith Strudler is the founder and director of the Marist College Center for Sports Communication.  He is also an associate professor of communication and served six years as chair of the communication department at Marist, overseeing extensive curricular revisions to improve the student learning experience. Strudler launched the Center for Sports Communication in the fall of 2011. Since that time, he has led the Center to several strategic initiatives, including releasing co-branded sports-issue polls with the Marist Poll that receive national coverage. Strudler has helped extend this partnership to HBO Real Sports, collaborating on sports polls of vital public interest used on the award winning program's broadcasts. He has also created and hosts a sports communication speaker series that brings notable sports broadcasters and journalists to campus and has created partnerships with external sports organizations, including the Sports PR Summit and the Northeast Associated Press Sports Editors. In the fall of 2013, Strudler launched a weekly sports talk radio program on ESPN 1220 of the Hudson Valley, the first such partnership between an academic center and an ESPN affiliate, and he serves as the show’s executive producer and co-host. Strudler also led the Center in hosting the academic conference of the International Association for Communication and Sport in the spring of 2014 in New York City.

Strudler created Marist’s concentration in Sports Communication in 2002, at the time one of the first and only such degree programs in the country, and now one of the largest and most established sports communication programs nationwide.  Strudler has been active in scholarly work in sports communication, publishing on the topic of televised sports heroes and the portrayal of race in sports television.  He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Sports Media.  Strudler remains active professionally, airing a weekly radio commentary on sport and society for WAMC, a public radio station in Albany, NY, that broadcasts over seven states in the Northeast.  Strudler has also written sports commentary for the Poughkeepsie Journal and has been an expert source for many national and international media outlets, including the Washington Post, CBS Radio, and the Christian Science Monitor. In his spare time, he enjoys trying to remain uninjured while training for triathlons and spending time with his two sons, both of which have clear perils.
