Internships within the School of Science are often referred to as field or clinical experiences. This is because these students thrive when given the opportunity to apply the theoretical skill learned in the classroom to "real-world" situations. For some of the majors within the School, an internship or field experience is required to complete the degree. Fields like Environmental Science and Policy and Medical Technology require at least some amount of practical application to continue on to graduate programs or professional environments. Field experiences also eliminate some of the initial nerves of "diving right in," which can be incredibly helpful for students in these departments. School of Science students have interned at a number of local and national facilities, including:

  • Biosphere II in Arizona
  • RPI Department of Chemistry
  • Institute of Ecosystem Studies
  • National Park Service
  • St. Francis Hospital
  • Central Hudson Gas and Electric
  • Harvard Medical School
  • Smithonian Environmental Research Center

Within the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, internship opportunities abound because, for several of the departments, some form of fieldwork is required to complete the degrees. This is because fieldwork experience in paths like Education, Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Social Work make all the difference when it comes time for students to take their first steps into the "real world." We ensure Marist students are more than prepared to take those steps with confidence.

The Criminal Justice Department offers over 75 internship opportunities throughout the area, allowing students to form professional relationships with our local, state, and federal partners. Interns experience first-hand opportunities to put their collegiate training into action. Some of our partners for the Criminal Justice internship program include:

  • New York City Police Department
  • Drug Enforcement Agency
  • Family Services Center for Victim Safety and Support
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation

"Rich Field Experience" programs are central to Marist's teacher preparation. Fieldwork begins within the first year of the program and continues throughout all four years. Students develop the strength to take initiative in their path, ultimately determining where they complete their Field Experience. The ever-vigilant Education Department is always helping to secure soon-to-be teachers with the best possible fieldwork environment for their preferences and interests.

Psychology Department students at Marist also have a wide range of internship opportunities provided to them, and our faculty is determined to place them in the proper environment for their desired path and interests. Psychology students have interned and apprenticed at a number of accredited facilities, including:
