Film, TV, Games, and Interactive Media Department

The Film, TV, Games, and Interactive Media Department fosters critical thinking, strong hands-on skills, and creativity in the study and production of media. Drawing from a strong liberal arts foundation, the program integrates the history, theory, and analysis of visual culture with production experience and internship opportunities in the areas of television, film, interactive media, and game design. It prepares students for fulfilling careers in a wide range of media industries, and for graduate programs in production and media studies. This liberal arts degree fosters critical thinking and its creative application in the areas of Film, Television, Interactive Media, and Game Design.

Field Trips

Marist's proximity to New York, the largest media market on earth, is one reason for our outstanding internship program. It also allows frequent field trips to broadcast and production facilities.

Every semester Marist students have the opportunity to be in the audience of a nationally-televised program. The trip always includes a question-and-answer session with a senior production professional, and a guided tour of the studio, control room, and backstage areas. Often students will be invited to apply for jobs or internships at the facilities they visit.

Certifications

Avid Certification: Marist is an Avid Learning Partner, and enjoys an official relationship with Avid Technology, makers of the world's most popular film and video editing systems. Most feature films and network television programs are edited with Avid products. Benefits for Marist students include special discounted pricing on Avid software and access to the official Avid training curriculum in Media Arts Department courses.

Students can also pursue professional certification in Avid. A certificate in Avid Media Composer is an industry-recognized professional credential. Students earning certificates are listed on Avid's website and are licensed to use the Avid logo on their business cards and web pages.

For more information contact Prof. Jeff Bass, Senior Professional Lecturer in Media Arts and Avid Certified Instructor, or visit Marist's Avid Certification Site.

Adobe Certification: To complement its highly-successful Avid certification program, the Media Arts Department offers a path for students to earn professional certificates in Adobe applications including PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, InDesign and Flash.

Beginning in spring 2017, the Media Arts Department began offering Adobe certification classes in a non-credit, accelerated format.

For more information, contact Prof. Jeff Bass, Senior Professional Lecturer in Media Arts.

Internships

Media Studies and Production students often complete multiple internships at a variety of media outlets, TV and film studios, interactive and video game design firms, networks, radio stations, and web page development studios in New York City, the Hudson Valley, across the nation, and abroad. The Marist in Manhattan program offers a semester-long residential internshipexperience in New York City.
