25NationalScienceFoundationPartnershipsforInnovationgrantAwarded2004TeundsromthePFIgrantwereusedtocreateTeMaristCollegeInstituteorDataCenterProessionalsIDCPoundedin2004.Asbabyboomerproessionalsretirelargedatacentermainramesusedbyinstitutionslikethegovern-mentbanksandevencommercialbusinesseslikeWal-MartwillseeacriticalskillsshortageaccordingtoHofmann.x1cWeneedareallysecureresilientcomputerinrastructurex1dshesaidandthereorethemainrameisnotgoingaway.Unortunatelytheskillsrequiredtomaintainandmanagethemainrameandthedatacenterinrastructurearenolongerbeingtaughtinthetraditionalundergraduatecurriculum.TeIDCPhasbeensuccessullyaddressingthisissuebyoferingawidearrayo100onlineandasynchronouseducationalpro-gramsorstudentsandworkingproessionalsacrosstheglobe.Asamatteroactstudentsrom24countrieshavepartici-patedintheIDCPcourses.Althoughthegrantoferedundingthrough2007theIDCPcontinuestooperateandthriveonatuitionbasisandissel-sustaining.Majormultinationalcorporationsandgovernmen-talagencieshaveutilizedtheIDCPtotraintheiremployees.ExamplesincludetheUSHouseoRepresentativestheCanadianDepartmentoDeenseProgressiveInsuranceDepositoryx1frustCitigroupIntelEmersonNetworkPowerandmanymore.TisprogramhasbeensosuccessulinactthatwhentheCollegeoNanoscaleScienceandEngineeringattheUniversityoAlbanydecidedtoapplyortheirPFIgranttheyaskedMaristtopartnerwiththembasedonthatsuccess.NewYorkStateOfficeofScienceTechnologyAcademicResearchNYSTARgrantAwarded2004MaristwasawardedundingromNYSx1fARx19sCollegeAppliedResearchandx1fechnologyCARx1fprogramwiththedirectivetospurtechnology-basedeconomicgrowthandcollaborationbetweenNewYorkbasedbusinessesandacademicinstitutions.WithsupportromtheNYSx1fARundingMaristcreatedtheCenterorCollaborativeandOn-DemandComputingCCODC.AsdirectorocorporateoutreachortheCCODCScanlonwouldconnectwithcompaniesromacrossthestatex1cwhowouldcollaboratewithMariststudentsandacultytohelptheirbusinessesgrow.x1dStudentswouldworkwiththebusinesseseitherunderaacultymentororbygoingtothecompanyinpersonorvirtuallyinanintern-likecapacity.TeCCODCservedawidevarietyocompaniesromlargepubliccorporationstobrandnewstart-upswiththegoalojobcreationcapitalinvestmentrevenuegrowthcostsavingsorworkorcedevelopment.Inmanycasesthestudentsinvolvedwiththecompanyprojectwerehiredatergraduationbythex2rmasulltimeemployees.Projectswereocusedontheexploitationoinnovativetechnologiesbutthecompanieswerenotnecessarilyinormationtechnologyx2rms.Someexamplesincludethecreationoadatadrivenwine-on-demandunc-tionortheDutchessWinex1frailwebsiteandthecreationoanautomateddatabasedrivenpowerplantsimulationprocessorGEGlobalResearch.TeprogramwasasuccessinactbyyearourothegranttheMaristCARx1fgeneratedmorethan4millionineconomicbenex2ttoNewYorkState.
