Logos of computer science internship locations: Apple, Goldman Sachs, Facebook, Lenovo, Morgan Stanley, Major League Baseball

Of all the colleges I applied to and was accepted to, Marist really checked off all the boxes. I loved the campus, the ITS program was perfect for me, and I liked that Marist had a liberal arts focus–I didn’t want to go to a school where everything was 100 percent tech and engineering.

Presenting at IBM TechConnect put the research that myself and my co-workers were doing at the Marist-IBM Joint Study into a larger context. Whatever your goal is in coming to Marist for computer science (whether it be to go into the workforce or to do research), there is something here for you.

I secured an internship with the software company, Workday, located outside of San Francisco. That kind of internship experience helped me to realize that I really enjoy research more than I do at a regular kind of desk job.

At Marist, I got the opportunity to work for the Data Science department as a lead AI student scientist. I like to think that everything happens for a reason. Now, I am working side by side with faculty developing an AI powered chatbot with state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing (NLP) skills which will ultimately be incorporated to a robot who will serve as a robot assistant for Marist.

The department of Computer Science and Mathematics has provided me with so many opportunities that I am not sure I would have been able to have elsewhere. From working in the IBM Joint Study during my freshman summer, to completing independent projects with excellent teachers, getting data center experience under my belt in Hancock and even on the main floor at IBM, or simply spending time in the Hancock atrium conversing with faculty and peers.
