Honors Housing

The Honors Program experience at Marist transcends the walls of the traditional classroom. Honors students also have the opportunity to live and learn together for all four of their years at Marist. The Program maintains two housing communities for its students. First-year students can apply to live in Honors Housing on the 8th and 9th floors of Champagnat Hall; upperclass Honors students can apply to live together in the recently-completed North Campus Housing Complex.

Both Honors Housing units have lounges in which the Program offers a wide variety of special social and academic programming. At our “Food with Faculty” series, Marist’s top faculty members frequently visit Honors Housing to gather with students and share their research. Upperclass Honors Housing hosts our Honors Research Forum, at which students share their research projects before presenting them at national and international conferences. In addition, Honors Housing hosts the bi-weekly “Tea with TED,” where students gather to watch and discuss TED talks on Friday afternoons. Finally, the Honors Program Director frequently hosts advising sessions in Honors Housing to help students select classes and define and develop research projects with faculty. In November, the program hosts a Thanksgiving celebration in upperclass housing.

What can you expect from your Honors Housing experience?

  • The Honors Director will be on-site on Move-In Day to meet and greet parents and new students
  • Dedicated monthly “study halls” with faculty from various departments on campus making drop-in visits
  • Special monthly programming on topics of interest to first-year Honors students such as: Study Abroad Night, Scholarship Workshops, Navigating Your First Year, How to Be a Leader, and What is the Senior Thesis?
  • Special social events such as Trivia Nights, The Welcome Social, and The End-of-Year Fondue Night
  • Dinners with the Deans/Food with the Faculty – throughout the year, specially invited members of our Marist community will join the Honors students in the lounges for an informal dinner and talk.
  • First-Year Field Trips: students will have the opportunity to take part in dedicated field trips to New York City and the Hudson River Valley, such as attending a Broadway show or a baseball game.
