Course to Combine Medieval Pilgrimage & Modern Technology

El Camino and Seville: Traveling in Time is a Spring attachment course that will be offered this May by Assistant Professor of Spanish Patricia Ferrer and Assistant Professor of English Lea Graham. Participants in the course will literally follow in medieval pilgrims' footsteps by hiking the English Way into Santiago de Compostela. The class will then make its way by train to Seville and explore that city's rich history of Christian-Muslim interaction. In addition to language immersion, the course provides students with the opportunity to explore travel writing in practice, to familiarize themselves with pilgrimage's crucial role in Western culture, and to experience Spanish culture past and present.

Participants will walk twelve miles a day during the first six days of the two-week course. Drs. Graham and Ferrer plan to send bilingual Tweets for anyone who would like to track their journey and will encourage their students to do the same. We look forward to charting their progress!
