Vanessa Yan '16 and Sam Leenas '17 Present at the New York State Political Science Association Conference
By Vanessa Yan '16
Along with a fellow Marist political science major Sam Leenas (in the picture on the left), I had the opportunity to participate and present on my senior capping project at the New York State Political Science Association (NYSPSA) conference, held at the SUNY New Paltz in April 2016. The conferences allowed for people from all over the country to submit research papers on issues pertaining to the political science field.
Along with four other participants, I presented on my research at the Race and Gender Panel. My paper, "Gender Roles in the Military," analyzed institutionalized patriarchy and its impact on the rape and sexual assault in the military.
Overall, the conference was an interesting experience. I had never sat as a panelist before. Until the NYSPSA, I had always been an observer in academic events such as this. At the conference, I received extremely positive feedback on my paper, was able to present on my project easily, and adequately responded to questions from the audience. It was truly a great experience.
