What sparked your interest in doing FFE?
Having the opportunity to go abroad was something I was looking for when applying for college. When I saw that Marist had this amazing program to study in Florence for a year, I knew I had to do it. I’ve always been fascinated with the culture and have wanted to study abroad there. This program just seemed like the perfect fit.
How do you feel FFE impacted you both as a student and a person?
I think the Freshman Florence Experience gave me a chance to develop as an adult much faster than other typical college students. You’re given so many opportunities to explore and go out of your comfort zone. It also helped me realize what I want to do in the future, which is to get a good job so I can return to Florence when I’m older.
Was it easy to adjust when you came back for your sophomore year?
Yes, and no. It was hard not being in Florence, but I had made such an amazing group of friends and helped me see that we can have as much fun here as we did there. Marist is so welcoming and friendly that it was easy to get back into the swing of things and feel like a part of the campus.
Any advice for incoming freshmen considering FFE?
Do it! It was the greatest year of my life. Florence is such an amazing city and it’s filled with so many exciting things to do. It may seem a little daunting to pick up and go to Italy, but once you see the Ponte Vecchio and eat some gelato, you’ll forget all about that.
