Kate Beebe Finds Opportunities in Athletics and Academics at Marist
Kate Beebe is a sophomore at Marist originally from Chatham, New Jersey. She is a double major in Fashion Merchandising/Promotion and Communications/Journalism. In addition to her studies, she has participated in rowing, L.E.A.P., Fashion Inc., Naturally Foxy, and the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.
What made you decide to come to Marist?
I always find the question ‘Why Marist?’ so funny because I was initially looking at schools that were the complete opposite of Marist; i.e. huge, southern schools. When I visited Marist, I instantly knew I had to go here. This school stood out because it did not just focus on providing a higher education, but also on giving students the chance to pursue internships, study abroad, and get involved with so many interesting and diverse clubs during their four years. Marist is also notably the most beautiful school I have ever seen. As cliché as it sounds, I really cannot think of a better school to spend four years at.
What sorts of clubs, sports or activities did you try your first year?
On my first day here, I ran down to the Marist boathouse and signed up for Women’s Rowing. Never before had I rowed, but I was an athlete all throughout high school, so I figured that it would be fun. Looking at it now, it is probably the best decision I have made since arriving on campus. I have made so many close friends and have had unforgettable experiences on and off the race course.
What advice do you have for high school junior and seniors considering Marist?
My advice to potential applicants is simply to take the jump and come to Marist. Trust me - I have visited more than my fair share of schools, and this one can top any other school on your list.
