Tell us about your work history before Marist, including years of experience, industry, companies, and positions:
I graduated from Adelphi University with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. I pursued my undergraduate degree in accounting to gain a foundation of knowledge for the inner workings of a business including their financials, resources, marketing, etc. Once I graduated with my bachelor’s, I began working as an accountant for a mid-size firm on Long Island, New York. I worked there for two years before graduating with my MBA from Marist College and obtaining a position at Northwell Health.
What are your career goals?
My passion is healthcare. My goal is to work in a hospital setting with a team of professionals to improve patient care, efficiency, and safety through innovation and teamwork.
Why did you choose to pursue your degree at Marist?
I researched numerous MBA programs throughout the United States. I was very specific in what I was looking for so it made it difficult to find the right fit for me. Marist College allowed me the flexibility to work full-time while obtaining my MBA by offering an affordable, online program. A non-negotiable for me was earning my MBA from a fully AACSB accredited school. Marist was the perfect fit.
Tell us about a project or course that was particularly meaningful to your professional development?
Having the opportunity to participate in the Marist College MBA program was incredibly meaningful to my professional development and career advancement. It was my passion to learn and develop analytical and reasoning skills that related to the healthcare industry. If I had to pick a specific area that especially stood out, it would be the professors. Throughout my Master’s program, the professors for each class assigned reading materials that targeted key areas within the industry. We had open forum discussions that provided a new perspective to the students through engaging conversations and interesting topics. It helped me to obtain a more in-depth knowledge of healthcare overall. In addition, each professor had personal experience in the field and I felt comfortable turning to them for not only for education but professional guidance as well. Immediately following graduation I was able to obtain a position at Northwell Health, which had been only a dream for me prior to attending Marist. Through the help of my peers and professors, I gained the confidence to make it a reality.
What advice would you give to a student considering pursuing their master’s degree at Marist?
If you are considering Marist for your Master’s degree, keep in mind three key advantages the program offers: low-cost, flexibility with an online program, and fully AACSB accredited.
If you took an online class or had online learning as part of a regular course, tell us about your experiences – any tips or suggestions to pass along to future students?
The fully accredited online MBA program was incredible. At first, I was very apprehensive to complete a full degree in an online setting. How would I be able to connect with my peers and my professors? All my concerns diminished once I began the program. I quickly learned that the style of learning Marist creates helps to ensure that all students are heard and all questions are answered. The online program is built to be extremely interactive. Each week, students participate in open discussion forums that engage group discussions and provide new perspectives on whichever area you are focused to learning about. It takes a certain degree of organization to stay on top of the course work and reading materials but once the semester starts, consistently referring back to the syllabus helps to keep students on track. In addition, the professors are always available via phone or email to answer questions or concerns.
