Brian Moran

Brian Moran is a senior from Smithtown, New York, majoring in Math Education with minors in Psychology and Music. Brian has a significant role in the Marist College Band, playing the bassoon, baritone, and clarinet; and serving in both the honorary band sorority Tau Beta Sigma and the band executive board as treasurer.

What made you decide to come to Marist College?

I was looking for a school that had math education and a music program that fit my needs. Why I chose Marist is that I felt the music program here wouldn’t be as competitive because we don’t have a music major. I felt that everyone here would have the philosophy of being in the band for the sheer passion of it and no other reason.

How has Marist helped you prepare for the real world after college?

Living on campus, I’ve had to grow up and learn life skills like how to cook for myself. Also, thanks to the music program, I have learned how to prioritize my time and where I focus my attention. “To be early is to be on time,” as [Music Director] Art Himmelberger says.

If you were talking to someone who was looking at colleges, what would you say to them?

Find the school that matches your interests the most. Honestly, whatever school you go to, regardless of whether it’s your first choice or your last choice, you need to make the most of that experience. I don’t want to say it's a once in a lifetime experience, but you’re only an undergraduate for so long so make the most of it.
