Erin O'Brien

Erin O’Brien is a junior at Marist originally from Oxford, Connecticut. She is a Communication major with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Psychology

What made you choose Marist?
I come from a very small town so I found comfort in the idea of a small campus. I remember hearing about Marist at a college fair at my high school and liked the wide variety of programs it offered, the small class sizes, and the pictures I saw were beautiful. When I visited the campus that summer I was completely sold and applied early decision. I don’t know how but when I stepped out of my car I just kind of knew that Marist was the place for me.

Do you feel that Marist has prepared you for life after graduation? What are your plans?
Yes, I feel pretty well prepared for the future. I hope to find a job in the public relations field in New York City while also working on getting my masters degree in IMC through the online program offered at Marist. Just knowing how willing to help the professors here are has made me feel very comfortable with where I am right now, as well as prepare me for where I hope to be in the future.

What advice do you have for incoming freshmen?
Don’t feel like you have to have your entire life planned out the second you step foot on campus. Feel free to try new things, change your major a few times, and take some classes just for fun. It’s the only way you’re going to figure out who you really want to be in life and where you want to end up.
