Nora Ahmed is a member of Marist's online MPA Class of 2009. She received a BA from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and recently retired from the
New York Police Department at the rank of Sergeant.
Tell us about your work history before Marist, including years of experience, industry, companies, and positions.
15 Years with USCG Reserves, 13 Years NYPD. I was a detective with the Counter Terrorism Division when I enrolled. I retired with 25 years of service with USCG and currently have 24 years with the NYPD.
What are your career goals?
To start a non-profit in support of survivors of domestic violence.

How has a degree from Marist and your course work enhanced your career?
Enabled me to be an adjunct professor and enhanced my resume for selection of special assignments.
What advice would you give to a student considering pursuing their master’s degree at Marist?
If you’re thinking about it then go for it! Take the first step and every following step after that becomes easier. Continually move forward. You will always have a million things to do and the timing never seems right. But make this your millionth and one thing to do, because there is no better time than the present to invest in yourself and your future.
