Russ Phillips is a member of Marist's online MA in Integrated Marketing Communication Class of 2015. He is a Corporate Marketing Strategist for Martin’s Point Health Care in Portland, Maine.
Why did you choose to pursue your graduate degree at Marist?
For years I had been running a website outside of my 9-5 job and working to promote it through an array of social channels. I knew I enjoyed doing that but wanted to find a way to expand on my abilities while also bridging the gap between my personal and professional work. The IMC program at Marist was a perfect fit and the ability to do everything online made it feasible for me as I knew I had to continue working full-time.
What was the best experience you had as a student?
For me, it was the group work as it allowed me to work with a ton of great people. We supported and learned from each other and that was something that really enhanced my experience.
How has a degree from Marist and your coursework enhanced your career?
My degree from Marist allowed me to shift gears mid-career from something I liked to something I love. Without this degree, it would have been a lot more challenging to make that move. It provided me with the relevant knowledge and skills necessary to obtain a management level marketing position.
