Fede Selected in NFL Draft
S
hortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday, May
10, Terrence Fede received a phone call
that was a dream come true.
On the other end were representatives
from the Miami Dolphins, who made Fede
the 234th overall pick with a seventh-round
selection in this year’s NFL Draft. Fede
became the first Marist football player in
program history to be selected in the draft.
Following impressive outings against the
Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers
in preseason contests, Fede made the
Dolphins’ opening day 53-man roster.
“It means the world to me. I’ve been
playing football since I was nine years old
and have been dreaming about getting my
name called,” Fede said hours after being
selected. “Then I thought about Marist. We
made history all year with the records that
we broke. Being the first player to be drafted
capped off our championship season.”
Fede, who graduated from Marist in
December of 2013, concluded his collegiate
career as the program’s all-time leader in
sacks with 30.5 and set the single-season
record with 13 sacks in the 2013 season. Last
season, Fede was named Pioneer Football
League (PFL) Defensive Player of the Year
and finished sixth in the voting for the
Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented
to the best defensive player in the Football
Championship Subdivision (FCS).
With 13 sacks in 11 games, Fede led the
FCS in sacks per game last season. He was
named an All-American by five separate out-
lets, and his efforts helped the Red Foxes win
a share of the PFL championship.
Mike Maker Hired as Men’s
Basketball Coach
O
n June 17, Mike Maker was hired as
the 11th head men’s basketball coach

position, he had a record of 147-32 (.821 win-
ning percentage) as head coach of Williams
College. He also has 17 years as a Division
I assistant, including stints at Dartmouth,
Samford, West Virginia, and Creighton.
The Miami Dolphins made Terrence Fede ’13 the 234th overall pick with a seventh-round selection
in this year’s NFL Draft. Fede became the first Marist football player in program history to be
selected in the draft.
“It is with great pride and humility that
I accept the head men’s basketball coach-
ing position at Marist College,” Maker said.
“Together, our staff and players will embrace
the overall mission of Marist and recognize
the responsibility we share to represent our
institution, program, and community, on
and off the court, with class, enthusiasm,
and excellence. We will implement a team-
first approach and unique style of play that
highlights character, intelligence, and skill,
a direct reflection of our student body as a
whole.”
Marist Wins Goodworks Challenge
M
arist was the winner of the 2013-14
MAAC Pepsi Goodworks Challenge
for the second consecutive year. As a result
of winning the challenge, the school received
a $1,000 donation, which will be made to the
Grace Smith House, Inc. Marist is the confer-
ence’s first school to win back-to-back years
in the five-year history of the competition.

athletes, coaches, and Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee (SAAC) took part in
65 community service events, volunteered
over 6,500 hours, and earned over 7,700
points in the academic year. The largest
amount of Marist’s volunteered hours in
the 2013-14 challenge went to the Stay In to
Win program. The program was created to
help middle school and high school students
focus on making good academic, career, and
personal choices.
