Gary Perkins ’00MPA
Receives SUNY
Chancellor’s Award for
Teaching Excellence
G
ary Perkins ’00MPA has
received the State University
of New York Chancellor’s Award for
Excellence in Teaching.
An associate professor at
Schenectady County Community
College (SCCC), Perkins teaches
courses in criminal law, criminology,
criminal evidence/procedure, juve-
nile delinquency, and interpersonal
violence.
He shares with his students
insight he gained and experiences he
had while a member of the Saratoga
Springs Police Department from
1976 to 2006. He also has revised
the criminal justice intern program
and formed partnerships with sev-
eral new agencies including local
police departments to augment the
number of internship sites. He is the
co-advisor of the Criminal Justice
Club and serves on several campus
committees.
A recognized expert in the
field, he has presented at confer-
ences across the Northeast, includ-
ing those held by the Academy
of Criminal Justice Sciences and
the Criminal Justice Educators
Association of New York State. He
is a member of both.
Perkins joined SCCC as an
adjunct in 2005, became a full-time
member of the College’s faculty as an
assistant professor in 2006, and was
promoted to associate professor in
2011. Previously he was an instructor
at the Zone 5 Police Academy. He
earned a BS in criminal justice from
Russell Sage College

he Office of Alumni
Relations welcomes count-
less alumni to campus throughout
the year. This past winter and
spring, the Alumni Office hosted
Marist Men’s Basketball Alumni
Weekend in January, the annual
Marist Hockey Alumni Game
in February, and Marist Men’s
Lacrosse Alumni Day in March.
