Summers Named Chief Deputy to
Stony Brook University President
r. Edward Summers ’04/’06MPA has been
appointed chief deputy to the president of
Stony Brook University.
As chief deputy, Summers serves as a presidential
advisor and chief of staff and will act as designee in
the absence of President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD.
Summers has nearly 11 years of experience as an
executive-level administrator supporting the work of
a college president. He was formerly chief of staff at
Union College and earlier worked for more than seven
years as an assistant to President Dennis J. Murray
at Marist. He was also an adjunct professor of public
administration and policy and served as program
director for Presidential Referral Scholars. As director
of Marist Africa Programs, he oversaw work with
nongovernmental organizations, led student groups
to South Africa and Ghana, and initiated plans for
trips to Kenya and Tanzania.
Summers earned a BA in political science and
an MPA at Marist; he holds an MPhil and a PhD in
public and urban policy fromThe New School.

Trustees, alumni, retired faculty, families, and friends gathered in
Naples, Fla., on Feb. 26, 2014, at LaPlaya Beach and Golf Resort. At the
event, President Dennis J. Murray shared recent College news and
updates. Florida Alumni Chapter President Ernie Arico ‘76 presented
Eileen Sico ‘97, administrative assistant to the president and secretary
to Marist’s Board of Trustees, with the annual Florida Alumni Chapter
Award to thank her for her support of the Marist College Alumni

Close to 300 alumni, students, parents, and friends spent Friday, Feb. 7,
2014, at the Hermitage Club in West Dover, Vt. Through the hospitality
of Hermitage owners Jim Barnes ‘84, a Marist trustee, and his wife,
Donna, all skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating, and snow
tubing were complimentary for the entire day. President Dennis J.
Murray hosted a breakfast reception at the Hermitage Inn, where he
provided an update on activities at the College. Alumni who enjoyed
the day included Barnes (far right), Nicholas Lombardi ’07 (left), and
Keith Galanti ’84.
