Social Work Fall 2015 Happenings

The Department of Social Work had a number of special events happen during the fall semester. Here are the highlights:

  • The Social Work Association raised $1, 250 for suicide prevention through the Out of the Darkness walk over the Walkway over the Hudson in during suicide awareness month in October.

  • The Social Work Program offers a monthly "Buddy Meeting" which is designed to match upperclassmen with underclassmen as guides/mentors in the social work program. The group recently had a de-stressing evening get-together of inspirational and motivational sign painting.

  • Seven social work students presented at the 48th New York Sate Social Work Education Association conference Nov 18 and 19. The title of their presentation was entitled" The Persistence of Adverse Childhood Experiences among DAAC Program Recipients". This presentation was based on original research conducted in Spring 2015 with Family Services, Domestic Abuse Counseling Classes. Students who presented: Rebecca Fornaro, Charlotte Karol, Dana Foucault, Lauren Haggerty, Natasha Hyrenko, Kelly lange and Jenna Secreto.
