An introduction to Communication and Marketing, this survey course examines Communication, Marketing, and relevant theories in a variety of contexts. Taking their basic knowledge of Communication and Marketing, students will apply their understanding of the process, function, and effects of said fields in a global context. Utilizing the culturally rich environment of Florence, students will explore some basic similarities and/or differences in the communication of different cultures.

The Marist Summer Communication Pre-College Program - offered in partnership with Istituto Lorenzo de'Medici - is designed for talented high school students who are interested in increasing their knowledge and understanding of Communication and Marketing. This course will be taught within a cultural context that will help students to become familiar with a basic understanding of communication marketing from a cultural comparative lens.

Program Goals

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the history of and theories from which the communication and marketing disciplines are based.
  • Understand a baseline of information about communication and marketing that is further explored in college-level courses, including the areas of verbal and nonverbal communication, interpersonal, group, cultural, mass, marketing and organizational communication.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the application of the study of human communication to everyday situations, both personal and professional.
