Justin Svegliato ’14 Honored at Annual Field Experience Ceremony

The award, given by Marist’s Center for Career Services since 1993, recognizes a graduating senior for outstanding achievement in experiential education, which includes internships, co-ops and student teaching assignments.

 The event’s keynote speaker was Marcus J. Molinaro, Dutchess County Executive. At the award ceremony, Stephen Cole, executive director of the Center for Career Servies presented the 2014 Marist College Intern Employer of the Year Award to Ernst & Young LLP.

Seven other students also received intern awards. They are: Nicole Rodgers, Fashion Design major; Robert King, Sports Communication major; Jennifer Grobe, Political Science major; Marielle Campbell, Business/Human Resource major; Eric Gambardella, Biomedical Science major; Jennifer Guzzardi, Criminal Justice major; Lauren Mazzotta, Elementary/Special Education major.

Desmond Murray, associate director of Field Experience, presented the awards to the intern recipients in front of an audience of employers, Marist faculty, staff, and students. One college-wide award is given annually to a student who has received the highest rating score of all of the various schools from a panel of judges. The other awards are given to recipients in each of Marist's schools.

Svegliato is a dean’s list student, a member of the National Honor Society, a recipient of a National Science Foundation Scholarship Award and the Haskell and Fiovranti Memorial Scholarship for Athletics. He was employed in an internship with Goldman Sachs, where he was involved in developing innovative commercial software applications. Over the course of his internship, he contributed to systems and software that are used throughout the firm’s infrastructure. He also designed and began to implement a new system to inventory and track Goldman Sachs network assets.

Ernst & Young LLP has been an internship partner with Marist for many years. The firm employs a number of alumni, and dozens of Marist students who have completed internships are now full-time employees, working at various levels in numerous locations throughout the organization. Dan Simpson ’04, senior manager from the firm's Stamford, Conn. office, received the award on its behalf.

Past recipients of the employer award have been: Health Quest, Anderson Center for Autism, Hudson Valley Magazine, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, MTV Networks, Target, Morgan Stanley, Maggy London International, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department, Center for Enhanced Performance at U.S. Military Academy, St. Francis Hospital, IBM, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, American Cancer Society, Central Hudson Gas and Electric, Madison Square Garden, Paine Webber, and Northwestern Mutual.
