Speakers, cooking demos, films highlight Sustainability Program at Marist

Sierra Club President Aaron Mair will deliver the keynote address as Marist celebrates its 10th annual Sustainability Program from October 10 – 24. This year's theme is "Environmental Justice for People and Planet."

Students, faculty, and visiting speakers will explore issues related to the environment and diversity here in the Hudson River Valley, across the U.S., and around the world. Events include lectures, panel presentations, educational displays, and a film screening.

Monday, Oct. 24, 7 p.m., Murray Student Center, Room 3101

The program will culminate on Mon., Oct. 24 with a full day of events in the Murray Student Center, including "The Hudson We Share," a conversation with Andy Peck, freshwater conservation project manager at the Nature Conservancy, student research presentations, interactive displays, and opportunities to get involved in the Poughkeepsie community.

Monday, Oct. 10, 6:30 p.m., Fusco Recital Hall  

Aaron Mair is the president of the Sierra Club's board of directors. An epidemiological-spatial analyst with the New York State Department of Health, Mair's experience includes more than three decades of environmental activism and over 25 years as a Sierra Club volunteer leader, where he has worked diligently for environmental justice.

Dumpster Dive, What's In Our Waste?  

Wednesday, October 12, 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m., outside Murray Student Center

How much are our students recycling? Students, assisted by Dr. Ray Kepner, Associate Professor, School of Science, will assess the components of waste from garbage collected from residence areas across campus in order to measure our recycling efforts.
