The Marist Office of Counseling Services strives to enhance well-being and mental health by providing high quality individual and group counseling services and crisis intervention for students, as well as psycho-education, workshops, and trainings for the Marist community. Promoting healthy development, growth, awareness and life skills supports the College's mission to prepare students in meeting the challenges of the 21st century global community.

 

COUNSELING SERVICES GROUPS for SPRING 2016

  “MEDITATION MONDAYS

TIME: Mondays 5:00 pm-5:30pm

PLACE: Health & Wellness Center SC352

 Learn healthy techniques to quiet the mind, focus attention, reduce stress, and have greater self-awareness. Mindful Mondays is a weekly half-hour gathering for students interested in meditation practice, guided imagery, and mind-body exercises. All you have to do is show up and relax!

  “Calming the Storm” Group

 Do you ever feel emotionally confused and overwhelmed? These emotions can be hard to understand, let alone regulate, and telling yourself not to feel them doesn’t work. This group is for students who want to learn skills for identifying and understanding their emotions, overcome obstacles that get in the way of changing emotions and increasing positive emotional experiences. With practice and use, these skills can enhance one’s sense of personal and relational well-being. Interested students are asked to schedule a screening appointment before attending the group session by contacting Counseling Services at 845-575-3314.

 “UNDERSTANDING SELF AND OTHERS” GROUP

Understanding Self and Others group is a good fit for those experiencing anxiety, depression, or difficulty connecting with others. Members develop greater self-awareness by sharing personal experiences, expressing worries or fears, engaging in new ways to relate with others, as well as giving and receiving feedback in a safe and supportive environment. Interested students are requested to schedule a pre-group appointment by contacting Counseling Services at 845-575-3314.

“HOPE” GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP

TIME:      Wednesdays 7:00pm-8pm

PLACE:    TBA

DATES:   Starting 9/7/2016, then every other Wednesday

 Counseling Services and Campus Ministry are once again offering HOPE, a support group for students who are coping with the death of a family member or other significant person.  The group is open to those whose loss occurred some time ago as well as those for whom the loss is more recent.  By coming together, students can share their unique experiences while gaining collective solace and support from group members.  Knowing they are not alone can help students to heal.
