Media Arts Department
The Media Arts Department offers the Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies and Production as well as minors in Digital Video Production, Interactive Media, and Cinema Studies for students outside the major. This liberal arts degree fosters critical thinking and its creative application in the areas of Film & Television and Interactive Media & Game Design.
Building on the College's liberal arts foundation, the B.A. in Media Studies and Production integrates production experience and the history, theory, and analysis of visual culture with internship opportunities in the areas of television, film, interactive media, and game design. Students graduate prepared for fulfilling careers in a wide-range of media industries and to enter graduate programs in production and media studies.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES. Media Studies and Production students often complete multiple internships at a variety of media outlets, TV and film studios, interactive and video game design firms, networks, radio stations, and web page development studios in New York City, the Hudson Valley, across the nation, and abroad. The Marist in Manhattan program offers a semester-long residential internship experience in New York City.
SLEEPLESS IN LAKE PLACID, a 24 hour Student Filmmaking Competition held in June at the Lake Placid Film Forum, gives top students in the program additional production experience outside the classroom. Our students also showcase their work at the Marist College Media Arts Festival in May.
