Fraternity and Sorority Life at Marist University

Welcome to Marist University! We are excited you have chosen Marist and hope that Fraternity & Sorority Life is one of the many ways you become involved and stay connected to the campus community.

Fraternity and sorority organizations have a long history in higher education dating back to 1776, when Phi Beta Kappa was founded at the College of William & Mary as the first organization to identify itself as a fraternity. Although fraternities and sororities have evolved over time, their core values of community, service, scholarship, leadership, and lifelong connection remain.

The Marist fraternity and sorority community consists of seven organizations, including three fraternities and four sororities. Participation in Fraternity & Sorority Life provides opportunities to serve in leadership positions within chapters and councils, engage in philanthropic and community service initiatives, organize events, and contribute to the broader Marist community.

Who We Are

More than 300 students belong to Marist University's fraternity and sorority chapters. Members have opportunities to engage with their organizations in a variety of ways, from serving as chapter officers to representing their organizations on the Fraternity & Sorority Advisory Council.

Together, these organizations create a vibrant community dedicated to leadership, academic success, service, and personal development

Community Service, Philanthropy & Events

The fraternity and sorority community contributes time, talent, and resources to philanthropic, fundraising, and service initiatives that benefit the campus, local, regional, and national communities. Each chapter actively supports charitable causes and community organizations throughout the year.

The Fraternity & Sorority Advisory Council works collaboratively to support community-wide service initiatives and promote the philanthropic efforts of individual chapters. Through these programs, members develop a lifelong commitment to service and civic engagement.

Suspended or Unrecognized Groups

Marist University recognizes only those fraternities and sororities that have completed the university recognition process and remain in good standing with both the institution and their governing organizations.

Students and families should be aware that Marist University cannot oversee the activities, conduct, risk management practices, or membership experiences of unrecognized organizations. Participation in recognized organizations helps ensure access to university support, leadership development opportunities, and established risk management standards.

If you have questions about the recognition status of an organization, please contact the Office of Student Activities. The following organizations are not currently recognized by Marist University:

  • Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE)
  • Alpha Phi Delta (APD)
