Earn a Global Sports Communication Certificate in Florence, Italy

Offered each spring at Marist's Florence branch campus in conjunction with our Italian partner Istituto Lorenzo de' Medici, Marist's Certificate in Global Sports Communication gives students from across the globe a chance to study the global world of sports media and communication – from global sports marketing to global sports film to multimedia sports reporting on international sporting events.

In this one-semester, 12-credit certificate, students will study, practice, and build portfolio work that gives them a jump start on a career in the increasingly global industry of sports communication. You'll see the sports world from a whole new perspective and add an important and unique line on your professional resume.

Requirements for a Certificate in Global Sports Marketing Communication

To earn the certificate, most students will take the following four, 3-credit courses:

  • Sports, Communication, and Society (Marist students may also take this at the Poughkeepsie campus)
  • Global Sports Marketing
  • Sport in Global Cinema and Television
  • Creating the Multimedia Sports Narrative

A select number of students may choose to do a 3-credit internship in Italy to replace one of the 300-level courses. This could include working with the Florentine media, an Italian sports team, or other Italian sports agencies. All course work is offered in English, and your instructors bring a wealth of experience in global sports media and communication. The certificate is open to both Marist students as well as those from other colleges and universities around the world who have chosen to spend a semester studying in Florence. There will be scheduled optional trips to other international cities and sites to gain a more robust understanding of the international sports industry. And you'll stay connected to the Marist College Center for Sports Communication through Skyped in speakers and visits from the Center director.

If you have a passion for travel, sports, and media, then this is a once in a lifetime educational experience.
