Marist College’s Fall Concert Series Schedule Announced

October 11, 2018 — The Marist College Music Department is performing a free concert series on campus from October-December 2018. The concerts feature an array of music groups, including the Marist Singers, the Marist Orchestra, and student performers from various music classes. Most events are free and open to the public unless otherwise stated. (See below for full list of events).

Night on Broadway, a show featuring the Marist Singers, is a benefit concert for the organization Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS organization helps men, women, and children across the country and across the street receive lifesaving medications, health care, nutritious meals, counseling and emergency financial assistance.  This event will take place on October 27 and 28.  Other highlights of the series include An Ecumenical Service of Lessons and Carols, featuring the Marist Singers, Handbell Choir, and Marist Orchestra, in collaboration with the Marist College Campus Ministry at the Redeemed Christian Fellowship in Poughkeepsie (December 1), and Echoes of World War I, The Marist College Band and Wind Symphony’s commemoration of the 100th anniversary of World War I (December 2).

Two concerts dedicated to Hudson Valley piano legend, Dr. Edwin A. Ulrich (1897-1995), will take place on December 3 and 4 in the Fusco Recital Hall. Dr. Ulrich was a resident of Dutchess County for nearly 60 years. His career credits include performances at various famous New York music landmarks; he was also a founding member of the Dutchess County Arts Council. Students from various disciplines will honor Dr. Ulrich by showcasing their semester’s work at these performances. 

The series also features recitals of these various music courses, including beginner and advanced piano, and voice lesson students. 

“We are very proud of our music students, and their dedication to the Marist and Dutchess County community,” says Marist College Music Director, Sarah Williams, “Their love of music shows through in every performance, and we hope that the audience can see that.”

Join Marist Singers in an annual Benefit Concert for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS mobilizes the unique abilities within the entertainment industry to mitigate the suffering of individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.  BCEFA supports organizations across the country which provide treatments and services for people affected by HIV/AIDS and their families.

Throughout the month of November Kappa Kappa Psi, the National Honorary Band Fraternity, commemorates their founding through a celebration of music on college and university campuses. The Kappa Upsilon chapter participates in this annual Month of Musicianship by presenting a coffeehouse open to all members of the Marist community.

The Marist College String Orchestra and Chamber String Ensemble take the stage in this afternoon of music.  Featuring selections from classical music to pop and Bollywood favorites, this afternoon matinee has something for music-lovers from all walks of life.

Kai Wong Senior Showcase

Alongside instructor Elena Pelih, Nelly Goletti Scholar Kai Wong ’18, showcases his extraordinary talent on the piano in the evening’s special recital. To honor the memory of Nelly Goletti Fusco, a distinguished composer, singer, and pianist, the Nelly Goletti Music Scholarship was established at Marist with a generous gift from The Frank A. Fusco and Nelly Goletti Fusco Foundation, Inc. A scholarship award is made to a talented singer or pianist. 

Vocal Skills Recital

Ring in the holiday season with the Marist College Music Department and Campus Ministry. This annual event celebrates the birth of Christ through readings by Marist community and music from the Marist Singers, Handbell Choir, and Orchestra. Admissions is free and open to the public. All are invited and encouraged to invite their friends to this joyous event. 

Echoes of World War I

The Marist College Band and Wind Symphony commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I through the performance of selections themed around the sounds and composers of the era.

Ulrich Woodwind, Percussion, & Advanced Piano Recital

Those partaking in woodwind, percussion, and advanced piano private lessons perform their semesters work at this recital. Dr. Edwin A. Ulrich (1897-1995) lived a life devoted to arts, business, and education. A resident of Dutchess County for nearly 60 years, Dr. Ulrich’s commitment to service continues to have a lasting impact in our community and at Marist College. His lifelong love of music began with classical piano and voice lessons in his youth. A music career in New York City included studies at Carnegie Hall and performances with the choruses of the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic Symphony. Here in Dutchess County, Dr. Ulrich was the featured performer on his own radio show and was a founding member of the Dutchess County Arts Council. During his lifetime Dr. Ulrich supported the education and professional development of musicians, a legacy continued through the Dr. Edwin A. Ulrich Charitable Trust at Marist College.
