October 23, 2019—Artist Rudy Vavra makes his home in the Hudson Valley, but his work has been exhibited nationally over the course of a 35-year career. His show at the Marist College Art Gallery opens on Thursday, October 24, with an artists’ reception at 5:00pm. “Rudy Vavra: Paintings & Drawings” will be on view through December 6. This exhibition is free and open to the public.

Although widely known as an abstract painter working in oils, Vavra has also exhibited drawings and watercolors. The exhibition at Marist includes all of these mediums.

Vavra’s work has been shown at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio; The Arts Center in Iowa City; and Z Gallery in New York City, and is also held in numerous private collections. He was educated at Texas A&M University and holds a Master’s of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York.

“With the saturated, brilliant color that is in Mr. Vavra's paintings we have a local artist who brings the luscious fall colors inside,” said Professor of Art Ed Smith, who is the director of the Marist Art Gallery. “With Marist's deep commitment to the Hudson Valley community bringing the work of Rudy Vavra to the public focus is particularly gratifying.”

The Marist College Art Gallery is located in the Steel Plant building. The Art Gallery is open Monday-Saturday, 11:00am-5:00pm.
