To Marist's Future
TO: Marist Trustees, Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, Parents
FROM: President Kevin Weinman
DATE: September 26, 2022
Dear Marist Community,
On Friday I had the honor of being formally installed as Marist College’s fifth president. I am deeply grateful to the students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends who joined us in person and virtually. Though I have been in this role for almost a year, this event, grounded in beloved Marist traditions and simultaneously focused on our future, made me even more proud to serve in this opportunity of a lifetime.
Throughout the celebration, the power of Marist’s intentional blend of the liberal arts with rigorous pre-professional preparation was evident everywhere. Amidst debates that attempt to pit the merits of a liberal arts education against a professional education, Marist proves that we don’t have to choose. Not only can they co-exist, they are mutually reinforcing. We saw the power of this intersection at the inauguration events. From the open house at the Steel Plant Studios Thursday night, to Friday’s celebration of student and alumni research and creative activities, to the faculty Snap talks on research and the Academic Symposium, to the ceremony itself, and the dozens of conversations happening in between, it was unquestionably obvious that Marist is a place where we aspire to and, not or.
Thank you to our trustees and to the many students, faculty, staff, and alumni who contributed their time and talent to making this celebration so successful. We have gathered photo and video highlights of the celebration and more on the inauguration website, www.marist.edu/inauguration, and I encourage you to take a look.
The river that is our inspiration serves as a constant reminder that we are on a journey. I am thrilled to be on this journey with the Marist community and so excited about where it will lead. As I shared in my remarks Friday, the future for Marist College is bright, and I could not be more honored and humbled to serve as Marist’s president. We are going to do great things together.
