Christopher J. Garcia
Visiting Assistant Professor of Communication
Bio
Dr. Garcia is a visiting Assistant Professor of Communication at Marist College. He completed his Ph.D. at Florida State University in 2022. Dr. Garcia specializes in critical research involving topics related to sports communication. Using historical methods, political economy of media and critical textual analysis, he explores how ideological discourse and scientific knowledge are disseminated through popular sports media. Notable issues investigated in his research include the gendered bias women face in sports industries (as both athletes and journalists), and the use of athletes as sponsors for unhealthy food products. Dr. Garcia’s work has been published in academic journals such as Communication & Sport, The Political Economy of Communication, Environmental Communication, Appetite, and Food, Culture & Society.
