Dr. Joshua E. Long

Visiting Lecturer of Music and Director of Bands

Bio

Dr. Joshua E. Long, Lecturer of Music and Director of Bands, facilitates music courses, instrumental lessons, the Wind Symphony (a select auditioned group), and the Marist Band (a concert, pep, and marching ensemble).

Dr. Long contributes to music education in a variety of ways.  Since 1996, he has been a proud community music participant through drum corps and community bands. He values the importance of communication and the needs of participants and provides direction for lifelong engagement in music-making.  This philosophy has led to many rewarding performances in Pennsylvania as the Bellefonte Community Band Director, Emmaus Sentinels Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps Horn Instructor, and Slate Belt Band Director and co-founder.  For Dr. Long, being a music educator has become more than providing content; it is also understanding the practice of the instrumentalist by encouraging community engagement and collaboration.

Dr. Long has directed athletic pep and marching bands, conducted wind ensembles/concert bands, coached brass ensembles, and lectured in music education and various introductory music courses in higher education institutions such as Keene State College, Frostburg State University, and The Pennsylvania State University.  He has also taught elementary through high school music in Pennsylvania and remotely for secondary schools in California, Michigan, New Jersey, and New Mexico.
