Michael R. Smith
Coordinator of Clinical Education
Bio
Michael Smith joins the clinical faculty for the Physician Assistant Program from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston. Prior to entering academia, Professor Smith worked for 13 years as a Physician Assistant specializing in orthopedic surgery in the southern New Hampshire area. Prior to becoming a PA, he was a paramedic proving emergency coverage for several greater communities.
In his previous role as Assistant Professor, he taught in multiple didactic and experiential learning classes and coordinated with other disciplines to increase Interprofessional Experience for the PA students. Professor Smith’s main focus was clinical medicine courses, but he was very involved in physical exam skills, coordinated a semester-long diagnostic methods class, served on three different program committees, and was a faculty advisor to 30 students.
Professor Smith and his wife and two sons reside in New Hampshire, and his younger son is a student at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York. When not working, Professor Smith plays goalie in men’s league recreational hockey three to four times per week. In addition, he enjoys traveling with his family and kayaking.
