Announcement to the Class of 2020 regarding online recognition of graduates, May 13, 2020

Members of the Class of 2020,

On April 2, President Murray announced the decision to postpone commencement, noting “I use the phrase ‘postpone commencement’ because we fully intend to hold one. At this time, I can’t tell you the exact date or location, but you will have a commencement! In the meantime, we will find other ways to celebrate your many achievements…”

Although our May commencement has been postponed, I am pleased to inform the Marist community that the College is planning an online recognition of our graduates. On May 23, Marist will provide a salute highlighting the accomplishments of the Class of 2020. This will be provided on the Marist web site for graduates and families to visit any time on May 23 or after. This is not a replacement for commencement, but rather a way to acknowledge the successful completion of your academic courses of study.

We understand other colleges and universities have canceled commencement or are performing some elements online. Marist remains committed to providing a full commencement ceremony, with all of the traditional pomp and celebration appropriate to this significant event, when we have the authority to gather and it is safe to do so.

Meanwhile, please know we are working hard to offer this online salute to the remarkable Class of 2020!
