Need-based Aid
In order to qualify for need-based aid, you must demonstrate that without financial assistance, you could not afford to attend Marist. The College determines your "need" by evaluating the information you provide when you complete the financial aid forms. (The formula used is: Cost of Attendance minus Student Aid Index minus Other Financial Assistance equals Need). Need-based programs include grants and certain loans.
In order for the Marist Grant-In-Aid to be renewed, the student must demonstrate financial need and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
- The non-renewable Marist Grant-In-Aid is awarded for the current academic year. This grant is not guaranteed each year and is based upon financial need, which could change each year, and the timeliness of your FAFSA application to Marist.
- The non-renewable grant is awarded to students on the basis of good academic performance and other financial aid resources available to students such as Tuition Employer Deferment. It is also based on the funds available for the grant program. Students who are receiving more than 50% tuition coverage from their employer are not entitled to the institutional grant.
- Starting with the Summer 2017 term, grant eligibility will be reviewed and awarded for the summer, provided we have a valid FAFSA on file and the student is showing the eligible financial need.
- Payment of the award is made in two equal payments in the fall and spring, unless otherwise noted. Marist Grants are not offered during the Winter terms. The amount will be directly applied to the student's account upon verifying the student's enrollment for the term in question and the fact that the student has maintained the necessary academic standards.
- Applicants classified in any of the following categories will not be eligible:
- Participating in the following programs: Master of Public Administration (MPA) cohort programs in NYC/Albany, Master of Public Administration (MPA) online program for law enforcement and emergency services, Hybrid MA in Educational Psychology, MS in Physician Assistant Studies, or Doctor of Physical Therapy
- Students who are receiving the 25% Partnership Discount are not entitled to the Institutional Grant.
- Students receiving special tuition pricing through organizational partnerships.

Federal Grants
Federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH)
A Federal TEACH Grant provides up to $4,000 per year in grants for students who complete the FAFSA and meet the eligibility requirements for federal student aid. Students must also intend to teach in a full-time, high need subject area for a minimum of four years at schools that serve students from low-income students and complete those four years of teaching within eight years of completing the program.
The conditions for receiving a TEACH Grant are as follows:
- You must complete the FASFA, although you do not have to demonstrate financial need.
- Graduation from high school with a 3.25 GPA or higher or scoring above the 75th percentile on a college admission test.
- Majoring in a program of study designated as a high-need subject area (Bilingual Education, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Reading Specialist, Science, or Special Education).
Please note that if you are unable to complete this teaching obligation within eight years, the grant will be converted to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan with interest accruing from the date the grant funds were first disbursed.
Please feel free to contact the Office of Student Financial Services at 845-575-3230 if you have any questions.
