Summer Pre-College: Financial Accountability and Planning

In-Person Session I: June 25 - July 8, 2023

If you are interested in accounting or personal financial planning (money management), this course is a fantastic opportunity to earn college credits from Marist's AACSB-accredited* School of Management. The Princeton Review has also ranked Marist as having one of the nation's best business schools.

Students may be surprised to learn that the stereotype of the accountant working alone crunching numbers all day is a thing of the past! Instead, accountants need to be good communicators and consultants for businesses to provide expertise in business management, artificial intelligence, and sustainability endeavors and outcomes. Today, the accounting curriculum covers dynamic and cutting-edge topics, such as fraud examination/forensic accounting and sustainability accounting and reporting, which explores, among other things, how companies steward the environment and manage employees.

This course introduces accounting -- the language of business – and explores many timely accounting topics. In addition, students will get a practical education in the importance of money management and personal financial planning with a focus on topics such as budgeting, investment options, debt management, insurance, and retirement savings. Students will be challenged to think critically and discuss the implications of organizational action.

*AACSB-International accreditation places Marist among the top 25% of business schools worldwide.
