Student Government Association
About Us
At Marist University, a student leader is more than just a title. Students from diverse backgrounds and interests come together to bring change and innovation to the campus community.
The Marist University Student Government Association (SGA) is the group for advocating on behalf of the student body in decisions which transcend the jurisdiction of the students and have taken on extreme significance, or which involve serious issues with university faculty, staff, or administration.
SGA is also responsible for giving guidance to other student groups, clubs, and organizations. It further maintains the authority to charter campus clubs and organizations.
Lastly, SGA offers a conduit for information between the university and student groups.
SGA consists of three branches:
- The Cabinet
- The Elected Assembly
- Judicial
The Cabinet Branch
The Cabinet consists of an elected Student Body President, Executive Vice President, two Administrative Coordinators, and their appointed President's Cabinet, which is responsible for advising them on issues relevant to the operation of SGA. The Student Body President also serves as a representative to the Marist University Board of Trustees.
The Cabinet positions are:

The Elected Assembly
The Elected Assembly is responsible for representing the views and desires of their constituent student populations, including the various resident areas on campus, the commuter, international, distance, and transfer student populations, and the four undergraduate classes. The four undergraduate Class Presidents maintain an elected Class Board.
The Elected Assembly positions are:

- The Distance Representative

The Judicial Branch
The Judicial Branch is composed of appointed student justices who handle cases concerning equity and equality of all SGA business and club affairs. The Judicial Board reserves the right to review legislation passed by the Assembly and is also responsible for adjudicating appeals made regarding Student Government Association decisions.
