Joanna Huyck
Professional Lecturer of Communication and Professional Programs
Bio
Joanna Huyck is a Professional Lecturer at Marist College where she teaches public relations, communication theories and practices, and interdisciplinary studies with a focus on career exploration and advancement. Joanna has an extensive history of developing experiential learning curricula and working with a diverse body of students to access opportunities for traditional and non-traditional higher education, professional upskilling, and hands-on or immersion learning experiences.
Before joining the Marist faculty full-time in 2015, Joanna served as the Director of Public Policy & Affairs for the New York Council of Nonprofits, Legislative and Communication Director for an elected member of the New York State Assembly, and Committee Clerk for the NYS Assembly Labor Relations Committee. She continues to serve as a public relations and policy consultant.
Joanna discovered her passion for teaching when traveling throughout New York State to train small charities and community-based organizations regarding the policies, procedures, and best advocacy practices to produce legislative and social change. Her passion deepened when she took on additional roles in community-based programs, teaching skills for grass-roots advocacy and personal career advancement. Joanna was a pioneer in connecting groups through digital networks and technology-based learning platforms, and she continues to embrace curriculum development and teaching and learning methodologies through new platforms and experiences. Joanna also serves in a volunteer role as a trained special education advocate for parents of K-12 students.
