News: critical software updates for Microsoft and Apple devices

Over the last two weeks, Microsoft and Apple have both announced security updates to fix critical vulnerabilities in their products. Regularly updating all operating systems and software is a key part of ensuring the safety and security of private information. We recommend that security updates are applied as soon as they are available for both personal and Marist College owned devices.

Microsoft 

Microsoft released updates to fix flaws in all Windows operating systems from Windows 7 to Windows 11. Some of the vulnerabilities have already been exploited by cyberattackers. Apple 

Apple has released emergency security updates to fix vulnerabilities that can by exploited by cyberattackers to gain unauthorized access to iPhones, iPads, or Macintosh computers. The following products are specifically listed as having this vulnerability. 

  • All iPhone models 6S and later 
  • iPad 5th generation and later 
  • iPad Air 2 and later 
  • iPad mini 4 and later 
  • All iPad Pros 
  • 7th generation iPod touch 
  • Macs running Monterey OS 
  • Macs running Safari on Big Sur and Catalina OS
