Learn MoreHonors Program Visits Historic Gettysburg

This spring Honors students will spend two days on the historic battlefields of Gettysburg with Professors Mark Morreale (English) and Nicholas Marshall (History). The students and faculty will discuss the three day battle while visiting important sites including Little Round Top, Culps Hill, Pickett's Charge, and the site of Lincoln's Gettysburg address.
The Honors Program visited Gettysburg in the spring of 2015. "The Honors Program trip to Gettysburg was the best experience I've had at Marist by far," said Samantha Leenas, a sophomore in the Honors Program. "It was eye opening to hear Dr. Marshall and Professor Morreale speak about the personal accounts of civil war soldiers. Reenacting Pickett's Charge, singing along to Civil War songs, and visiting all of the battlefield monuments made for an amazing, enriching learning opportunity."
The trip was part of an Honors seminar that Professors Morreale and Marshall are teaching this spring. The course is an interdisciplinary course in English and History. Morealle and Marshall are both Civil War experts.
