Student Learning Outcomes

The Social Work program is designed to prepare students for competent social work practice as defined by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Educational Policy Accreditation Standards (EPAS). The goal of competency-based education is to assure that students can successfully integrate and apply the competencies in practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. The core competencies are further explained as a Social Work Program Competency (SWPC).

There are nine SWPCs:

  • SWPC 1: Demonstrate Ethical and Professional Behavior
  • SWPC 2: Engage Diversity and Difference in Practice
  • SWPC 3: Advance Human Rights and Social, Economic, and Environmental Justice
  • SWPC 4: Engage In Practice-informed Research and Research-informed Practice
  • SWPC 5: Engage in Policy Practice
  • SWPC 6: Engage with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities
  • SWPC 7: Assess Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities
  • SWPC 8: Intervene with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities
  • SWPC 9: Evaluate Practice with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities
