About Avery:

Hometown: Hamden, CT

Education:   B.S. Communication - Souther Connecticut State University

My earliest memory of Marist is: standing in Longview Park looking at the Hudson after my interview. I was in awe of its beauty and thought about how lucky I would be if I got to see that view every day.

One of my favorite movies is: The Princess and the Frog! I love the music and colors in the movie, and it was great representation for me growing up!

My friends would describe me as: resourceful and professional, but also silly and goofy! They know I'm the friend they can go to if they need to have a serious conversation or want to have a laugh.

When I think of heroes I think of… those who fight to improve the status quo before it's popular. It takes a lot of courage and persistence to start a social movement, and the world would be much different without those changes. 

If I could travel anywhere…I would travel to Belize. My grandmother is from there, and I want to visit her hometown. 

My biggest “mentors “growing up were… my parents! They have always pushed me to go after everything I wanted and taught me how to advocate not only for myself but for others. They are my biggest cheerleaders and supporters. 

One of the best things about college is…having a space to find yourself! College is one of the only times in life when you can discover who you are surrounded by people who are also discovering who they are. Try new things, have fun, and find your passion!

When I’m not busy with things at Marist...I am trying new restaurants and going to concerts. I love trying new foods, especially cuisines, and I love listening to music. I think sharing experiences with others is so special, so I try to do both often with the people I love. 

My message for the students of Marist is: Be your UNIQUE self! While everyone is here with the same goal, you get to choose your own adventure on the way to the graduation stage. You never know what opportunities will open themselves to you because you're yourself. The world deserves to meet the real you as much as you deserve the world.
