May 14, 2024 — Our students are the pulse of Marist’s communications work. Nearly a dozen students each semester join the Office of Communications and Marketing team. Among many other things, they keep Inside Marist plugged into student-centric stories and voices, our social media full of trending content, and our office full of laughter and energy. We are incredibly grateful for their help and want to take a moment to thank them for the contributions.

Three of our incredible student workers are graduating in a few days:

Yasir Olenja '24

Yasir was our dynamic student photographer, helping us catch special Marist moments for stories and snapshots. A game design and emerging media major, Yasir was incredibly passionate about his created and captured content. He’s photographed on campus day and night, covering major events like Admitted Students Weekend, the Silver Needle Fashion Show, and Marist theater productions. His projects include work for Fox Chat, Measure Magazine, and major Marist Athletics games. Post-graduation he will be traveling to the Philippines and focusing on creating a video production company.

Zoe Fernandes '24

A lead student writer and editor for Inside Marist, Zoe contributed significantly with her sharp organizational skills, undeniable reliability, and strong creative voice. A major in fashion merchandising with dual concentrations in business and promotion, Zoe led the charge in our fashion coverage and story editing. A few of her notable Inside Marist bylines included stories on MPorium and SNR behind the scenes. Zoe graduates with a full-time job lined up as an assistant buyer for Ross Stores. She will spend the summer back in her home in Hawaii, relaxing before coming back to the bustle of a professional fashion career in New York City.

Jadyn Lance '24

Jadyn painted the campus red as our Fox Chat interviewer and social media correspondent. An incredibly warm and vibrant personality, Jadyn had a special way of making each interviewee feel comfortable. She had no problem stepping in front of the camera to shine and share the Marist story. She graduates with a communications major with concentrations in public relations and advertising and a minor in theater and global studies. After graduation, Jadyn will be working on as a campaign manager for NBCUniversal’s 2024 Summer Olympics and will continue her master’s degree studies in the five-year Marist marketing program.

The following MARCOM student workers and interns contributed greatly to our team’s success this year. We couldn’t do any of this without you!

Lindsey Bieber '25: As our spring intern, Lindsey brought a constant stream of creative ideas for social media, even helping us reimagine the @MaristAdmission Instagram account as a hub for future Red Foxes and their families.

Veronica Vogelman '26: Always willing to pitch in, Veronica helped with web updates and contributed by sharing the story of her incredible journey through 11 different countries as part of the Asia Study Abroad Program (ASAP).

Gavin Gilooly '26: Gavin helped with digital content, facilitating web updates, engaging the Marist community with “person-on-the-street” style videos, documenting his trip to New York City and even creating music playlists for events!

Tyler Allen '27: Together with Claire, Tyler transformed Marist’s presence on ZeeMee, a digital platform we use to engage with future Red Foxes, helping us make the list of ZeeMee’s TOP 10 Most Engaged Communities nationally — TWICE!

Leizl Carlo '27: In addition to helping maintain the Marist website, Leizl has been very supportive in content efforts on campus and inspiring fellow band members to share their energy on camera.

Claire Hewitt '27: Claire’s work with Tyler on ZeeMee brought Marist national attention. She makes frequent appearances on @Marist social, whether she’s in front of the camera or behind the scenes capturing the beauty of a snow day!

Sydney Scheels ’27: If you follow @Marist on social media, you’ve seen Sydney! Together with Cassie, Sydney has brought a freshness to Marist’s social media presence that’s not only a joy to watch, but also effective in helping us achieve our strategic goals.

Cassandra (Cassie) Williams ’27: A true storyteller, Cassie has the unique ability to educate, inspire, and entertain through the content she creates! Together with Sydney, Cassie keeps current students and the broader Marist community engaged in a way that’s fun and never forced.
