The Marist College Center for Sports Communication will present on Thursday, November 9, ESPN personality Pablo Torre in conversation with Professor Leander Schaerlaeckens. The event will take place at 4 p.m. in the Admissions Theater (SC 380) in the Student Center Rotunda. It is free and open to the public.

A 2007 graduate of Harvard University, Torre quickly became a leading figure in the sports industry. He has experience as a writer for Sports Illustrated, where he spent a vast amount of his time covering the NBA and boxing, and wrote an award-winning article entitled How (And Why) Athletes Go Broke, where he detailed the financial woes of multi-million-dollar athletes from across the sports industry.

Torre has since been hired as a senior writer at ESPN and a regular guest on various shows including Around the Horn, Pardon the Interruption, Outside the Lines, and The Sports Reporters. In 2016, Torre made his production debut for ESPN, producing his first 30-for-30 entitled Friedman’s Shoes, a documentary about a shoe store in Atlanta that served all of sports’ biggest and tallest athletes.

In 2018, ESPN is premiering a new one-hour live program featuring Torre and rising ESPN personality Bomani Jones. “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to turn ourselves into a live sports television show that’s as fun to watch as it will be to make,” Torres said.

Professor Leander Schaerlaeckens, visiting lecturer and host of The Center for Sports Communication’s School of Sports, will conduct the discussion with Torre, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience.
