Jackie Piddock '26 is more than a biology major and basketball player—she’s a leader, an aspiring Marine Corps officer, a curious scholar, and a reflective community member.
"At Marist, I don’t have to limit myself to a single identity. I’m not just a student, or an athlete, or a biology major; I’m all of those things and more," Jackie said.
Jackie’s journey to Marist began with basketball recruitment, but what drew her in was the warmth and family atmosphere she felt from everyone on campus.
As a human biology major and psychology minor, Jackie combines her interests of science and human behavior to excel on the basketball court and prepare for the military.
"Psychology complements my biology major by giving me insight into human behavior and health," said Jackie. "It’s helped me understand injuries better and support my teammates through mental blocks."
Jackie’s academic background also fuels her military aspirations. “As a Marine Officer, I will face extreme challenges and be pushed beyond my limits while making critical decisions,” said Jackie. “My science and psychology studies have taught me to embrace challenges and approach uncertainty with curiosity and strategic planning.”
Growing up in a Marine family fostered Jackie’s determination and resilience, inspired by her father and grandfather’s service.
"The work ethic instilled in me by my family translates directly into basketball, where I stay resilient, disciplined, and committed to putting in extra reps and taking extra shots," she said. "The team-oriented nature of the Marine Corps also aligns with the sense of camaraderie I’ve found on the women’s basketball team."
She recently completed six weeks of Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Class (PLC) training, preparing her for her goal of becoming a Marine Officer.
For Jackie, juggling academics, athletics, and community involvement takes careful time management, but she’s grateful that Marist helps make doing more possible.
Beyond basketball and school, Jackie has found community and connections through the Department of Spiritual Life and Service.
“Take advantage of all the opportunities here,” she said. “Marist encourages you to explore, to do more, and to find your true self. Whether you’re interested in sports, academics, arts, or spiritual life, Marist has a community for you.”
In our "Inspired to do More" series students, faculty, staff, and alumni share their unique Marist journeys.
