November 22, 2019—The Marist College Music Program and Campus Ministry will present the annual Ecumenical Service of Lessons and Carols on Saturday, December 7, 3:00pm, at Redeemed Christian Fellowship in Poughkeepsie. This event is free and open to the public.

This service is derived from a traditional Christmas Eve liturgy first celebrated at King’s College Cambridge in 1918. The Marist version features numerous student musical ensembles including the String Orchestra, Handbell Choir, and Marist Singers. Nearly 200 musicians and singers will perform. The service will also include readings by members of the Marist community.

Musical selections will include “Sussex Carol,” a traditional English carol performed by the Marist College Singers and the Marist Orchestra. The service will conclude with a performance of “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah and all attendees are welcome to join the choir in the singing of the “Hallelujah Chorus.”

“The Service of Lessons and Carols is such a special event,” said Director of Choral Activities Sarah Williams. “The Music Department joins together to create glorious moments of music. Our hope every year is to bind a greater community together through the love of music.”

Redeemed Christian Fellowship is located at 100 Cannon Street in the City of Poughkeepsie. For more information contact the Marist Music Department: 845-575-3242 or musicdept@marist.edu.
