April 2, 2018 — Human Nature, an exhibition of paintings, photographs, and drawings by fourteen senior students in Marist College’s Art & Digital Media Program, will be on view in the College Art Gallery at 51 Fulton Street, April 5-12. An artists’ reception will be held on Saturday, April 7, 4:00-6:00pm in the Gallery. These events are free and open to the public.

The works in Human Nature explore the connection between nature and the human condition. Student curator Elizabeth Bouyea, together with her Capping class, conceived of the group show. “Interpretation of the theme is as diverse as each student’s background in the arts and their personal experiences,” she said.

“This exhibition interprets the connections between humans and the world around them. Some of the pieces veer more towards natural aspects such as landscapes and animals while contrasting pieces focus more on humanity,” said student artist Eleanor Downie. “My own photographic works combine both humanity and nature to create compositions that are unusual and captivating.”

One artist in the exhibition, Ashley Houghton, just received a merit scholarship to attend the New York Academy of Art 2018 Summer Residency Program. 

Featured artists include: Jess Babi, Frank Bellis, Mia Bias, Elizabeth Bouyea, Haley Cimillo, Eleanor Downie, India Federico, Amanda Garrity, Ashley Houghton, Maggie McGowan, Tiffany Scott, Steven Sorace, Victoria Vuoso, and Emily Young.

The Marist Art Gallery is open Monday-Sunday, noon-5:00pm. Admission is free. The gallery showcases work by both Marist and external artists and features numerous exhibitions throughout the academic year.
