New Student Orientation Welcome to Students and Parents

STUDENTS: May 10, 2021

Dear Students,

Congratulations on joining the Marist community!

My name is Robin Torres and I am the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement and Leadership at Marist. You’ll hear from me over the weeks and months ahead with information about New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, and your first-year experience.

New Student Orientation will begin virtually on Monday, June 21. This six-week program is a hybrid experience with opportunities to engage with other students on-ground and virtually. The virtual portion of the program is required for incoming students, while optional in-person sessions will begin on Thursday, June 24. Click here to sign up!

Throughout the program, we will be highlighting a wide variety of academic opportunities, student activities, and campus resources available to you throughout your college career. During New Student Orientation, you will meet this year’s Orientation Leaders (OLs). When you meet your OL for the first time, you’ll discover a mentor, a peer, and a friend who will be there to answer your questions and help you feel more comfortable and connected.

Now that you’re officially a Red Fox, you can begin the necessary steps to prepare for your first semester! One of your first steps is to make your First Year Seminar (FYS) selection. This is a unique opportunity for you to customize your schedule with a class that best fits your interests. FYS classes range from Comics & Maps & Medieval Manuscripts, to Murder, Madness, & Mental Mayhem, and all have dedicated professors ready to answer all your questions! We guarantee you will be placed in one of your top five selections. More information on when to rank your choices is coming soon.

In addition to making your FYS selection, click here to begin the required placement tests and surveys prior to beginning orientation. These items are time-sensitive and have different completion dates, so check this page regularly to be sure you don’t miss the submission deadlines. We want to be sure you are “Red Fox Ready!”

We know you’re excited about this new chapter in your life and serious about getting the best education possible to set yourself up for professional success. Beginning Monday, June 21, all emails will be sent to your Marist email, so be sure to set up your account and check it often!

Sincerely,
Robin Torres
Assistant Dean of Student Engagement and Leadership

PARENTS: May 10, 2021

Dear Parents,

Congratulations on joining the Marist community!

The first year of college, and the summer preceding it, are a time of celebration and change for you and your family. You are an important part of the Marist community, and the role you play in your student’s successful transition to college cannot be underestimated!

For these reasons, we hold a special Parent Orientation each year that runs concurrently with our student program. Parent Orientation will offer insights into student life, academic resources, campus policies, Parent Council activities and more. Be sure to mark your calendars for the launch of your orientation program starting on June 21! This four-week series will be a hybrid experience with opportunities to engage on-ground and virtually. The in-person sessions are optional and will begin on Thursday, June 24. One of your first ways of supporting your student is to encourage them to sign up for a registration date and also to select their First Year Seminar Preferences and other deadline-oriented tasks.

We’ll be sending out more instructions and details about both of these orientation programs to you and your student soon. On behalf of the Office of First Year Programs, we look forward to sharing this experience with you and your family.

Sincerely,
Robin Torres
Assistant Dean of Student Engagement and Leadership
