Marist Receives Multimillion-Dollar Gift from Alumna to Support Wide Variety of Student and University Needs

May 28, 2025 — Marist University is grateful to announce a significant multimillion-dollar gift from an anonymous alumna that will support the University’s unrestricted giving fund. The funds will empower Marist to direct resources where they’re needed most and bolster the world-class education available to Marist students.
This is the second multi-million-dollar gift to Marist in just three months, following a major contribution from the McCormick family in February. This donation—one of the largest unrestricted gifts in Marist’s history—also follows an extremely successful Day of Giving in March when alumni and other community members donated $1.2 million. These recent gifts and contributions demonstrate confidence in the University’s direction and excitement about the growing appeal and stature of a Marist education worldwide.
“This gift is an investment in Marist’s future and in the students who will go on to make a difference in the world,” said President Kevin Weinman. “I am grateful to Marist alumni who believe so deeply in the future of the University. These funds give us the agility to act in real time to enhance academic offerings, support students and faculty, and seize new opportunities that advance our mission.”
A Gift with Wide-ranging Impact
Unrestricted gifts are among the most powerful forms of support a university can receive. They allow institutional leaders to direct funding toward high-impact areas, including:
- Scholarships: Helping Marist attract and retain talented students, particularly those with financial need, by offering more competitive aid packages and making a Marist education accessible to students from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Faculty Support: Expanding student-faculty research, enhancing academic programs, and investing in new faculty hires that will help retain the personalized forms of teaching and learning Marist is known for.
- Campus Resources: Enabling upgrades to learning spaces, technology, and critical student support services, such as academic and nutritional resources for Division I athletes.
The gift accelerates the goals of Marist 100—the University’s strategic plan to elevate the student experience, broaden academic offerings, and expand Marist’s global reach.
“The support of this anonymous donor helps fuel our vision and the bold ambitions we have for the future,” added President Weinman. “As we move toward the beginning of our second century in 2029, this gift strengthens our ability to deliver a transformative education, develop thoughtful leaders, and bring Marist to the world—and the world to Marist.”
