Message to Students Regarding Modified Pass/No Credit Policy - March 27, 2020
Dear Marist Students,
I hope the extended spring break has provided you with the time to relax, recharge, and prepare yourself for the successful completion of your courses. Preparing the restart of the spring semester online has required the focus, dedication, and collaboration of the entire Marist community. I would like to give you a sense of the endeavor: 1,700 courses, taught by over 600 faculty with more than 5,000 students enrolled, have been transitioned to an online format. Despite the challenges, Marist remains committed to you, your continued academic success, and the uninterrupted progress toward your degree.
The global disruption caused by the spread of Covid-19 has undeniably altered the learning environment for all students and faculty alike. Our students have shown great courage and resilience throughout this disruption. But we understand it has likely impacted you personally and academically. As a result, Marist has enacted an important modification to our Pass/No Credit (P/NC) policy for Spring 2020 undergraduate courses currently underway. This policy change has been adopted after extensive consultation with Marist’s Academic Affairs Committee, Student Government Association leadership, and the Dean’s Council.
The modified P/NC policy allows undergraduate students to request that any or all of their current Spring 2020 undergraduate courses be graded using the P/NC option. The date for opting in is 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 15. The Registrar’s office is preparing a special form, and this will be ready for student use by Monday, April 6.
The P/NC option is not something you should opt into lightly. I encourage you to take time to think about this decision, and to consult with your academic advisor and faculty mentors about any potential implications this might have on your future academic goals, especially if you are considering graduate school and/or seeking licensure.
